Risk Management Approach

HydroChemOne of the keys to HydroChem’s success has been our ability to proactively manage the risks associated with Legionella and cooling tower systems, prior to issues occurring. HydroChem’s demonstrated competencies in this area are a result of:

  • our 30 years experience managing the risks
  • a commitment to ‘continuous improvement’ which is part of our ISO9001 accreditation
  • involvement with government and industry bodies in the development of regulations and standards
  • our proactive nature. We are renowned for our focus on fixing issues as they arise
  • involvement as expert witnesses in court cases such as the Aquarium outbreak in Melbourne
  • our passion and commitment

These competencies in addition to our emphasis on staff training and development, combine to make us the leader in the field of Legionella risk management.

Training and Devlopment

The training and development of the technicians who service your cooling tower systems is undoubtedly one of the most important factors in minimising the risks associated with Legionella. The technician is responsible for maintaining the water chemistry in the system, ensuring the equipment is functioning effectively, identifying any issues associated with the system and reacting to those issues.

As technicians have a high level of responsibility, HydroChem places a high priority on training and development. Further detail on our training and development program can be found here.

Team Approach

HydroChem In our experience, in a high risk area such as Legionnaires’ disease risk management, one of the most important factors in minimising the risks is to develop an organisational structure that has, at its core, the flexibility to react to issues.

HydroChem’s organisational structure is designed to adapt to high pressure situations without causing a domino effect on other aspects of the operation.

One of our key benefits is our ability to react quickly to situations that are cause for concern. In contrast to other service organisations, we ensure that at least 3 technicians are familiar with your site (including one team leader). This enables us to react more quickly should any issue arise. If issues arise, our team is organised with the flexibility to allow the dedicated technician to attend site immediately. If, for any reason, that technician is not available, one of the other technicians, or the team leader, familiar with the site will attend to rectify the issue.

Escalation Procedure

An essential component of the risk management approach is our issue escalation procedure.  If a technician encounters an issue in the field and requires assistance in resolving that issue, the problem is escalated to the team leader. If the team leader is unable to address the issue it is escalated to the Services Manager. This process ensures issues are resolved quickly and effectively.
