Carbon Neutral Contracts

In an industry first, HydroChem has introduced Carbon Neutral Contracts. This initiative will provide HydroChem and our customers the chance to offset the greenhouse gas emissions produced in servicing contracts.

What is carbon offsetting?

Carbon offsetting provides an opportunity to neutralise or balance the carbon emissions added to the atmosphere by our activities. Carbon offsetting offers an effective alternative when carbon emissions cannot be reduced through switching to alternative practices.

How are carbon emissions offset?

Planting trees is internationally recognised as the most effective, short term solution for removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. On average, a tree will absorb around 230kg of carbon dioxide over 30 years.

Research has shown that trees, over time, also assist the environment by:

  • reducing wind erosion;
  • controlling salinity;
  • regulating water balance; and
  • improving soil.

How are carbon emissions calculated?

 The carbon emissions for each HydroChem contract are calculated as a percentage of HydroChem’s total energy usage (electricity, gas, petrol and diesel) according to the value of the contract as a proportion of HydroChem’s total revenue.

Each new HydroChem contract or renewal will be provided with a calculation of the carbon emissions produced in servicing that contract. Customers that choose a Carbon Neutral Contract will choose to offset the carbon emissions produced in servicing their contract. All contributions to the Carbon Neutral Program are tax deductible.
